Kandace and KT Terry
At dcf
KT serves as an Elder, leads a house church, and serves as the Lead Pastor at dcf. KT serves as the main teaching voice during our Sunday morning Gatherings. Additionally, KT takes on many other pastoral responsibilities, such as counseling, mentoring, and administrative duties – just to name a few.
Outside dcf
KT tries to spend as much time as he can with his best friend and wife Kandace. They love to vacation – anywhere they can find a pool, beach and the hot sun.
In his “free” time, KT loves watching, discussing, writing and making movies. He specifically enjoys writing scripts, as he attempts to tell stories that entertain, speak truth, and pose questions.
How he got here
The short version: After college, I served at a church in Charlotte, NC as the interim Young Adult pastor. After a year in this position, I took a new position at a church in Greenville, SC as a Youth Director. After 4 wonderful years as a Youth Director, my wife and I moved to Los Angeles.
In LA, I was in the process of getting my Masters Degree as well as pursuing my interests in the entertainment industry. It was a tough time of discovering God’s leading. That is to say, I didn’t know if God was leading me into the media world or back into ministry. It was a tumultuous journey of wondering which direction to go – they seemed so different. So, through a lot of prayer and advice from our mentors, friends and family, Kandace and I decided that I would take a full year after graduation from Fuller and pursue the entertainment industry.
I had a few gigs on some TV shows, a hosting gig, a script contracted, and production work on a Discovery channel show. Yet after the year was up, I realized that something was missing. From this point Kandace and I sought God’s direction again and he pointed us to the position of Lead Pastor at DCF. It seemed like the perfect fit. This is due to the fact that DCF is a place where I feel God can utilize my desire to be a pastor as well as my passion to produce films. It was a GIANT step of faith for Kandace and me. We were both scared – not knowing what the future held. Yet, we know that fear is not a reason to not walk obediently before God, and we felt the overwhelming nudge of God to take on the honor of being the Lead Pastor at DCF.
Hopes for dcf
“For our church to experience the real and tangible move of God in our lives. To serve each other and the community with the heart of Christ. To see lives transformed by the grace and forgiveness that God grants us through Jesus. To utilize our gifts and talents to honor God and further his Kingdom. To be a place where people can experience God through art, film, music and media. To live life with open hands. To get out of the way and let God do his thing.”
